Information used by the apps
The three apps have separate learner accounts, progress and teacher rosters. A learner ID from one course does not sign in to another course.
- Learner account: a randomly generated internal identifier, a short resume code, an account-creation identifier and an optional name. You can leave the name blank or use a nickname. A teacher can assign a name to an ID.
- Learning records: topics and questions, submitted answers, results, attempts, hints used, session dates, your place in an activity, and learning/display preferences. These records support progress reports and resuming work.
- Teacher access: a username, a password hash on the server and expiring session-token hashes. The password is sent over HTTPS to verify a login. The native app keeps the active teacher session in memory rather than deliberately saving the password or token to disk.
- Security information: the service uses an IP-derived hash, request category, counter and expiry for rate limits. Account deletion also stores the deletion date and hashed security receipts to make retries safe and prevent deleted identifiers from being reused. Hosting systems may separately process IP addresses and technical request/error logs.
Online account requests go to the selected course's service on sivi.com. The app also stores learning data in its private device storage so a previously loaded learner can continue offline. Pending work is sent when a connection is available. Conflict-recovery copies may be kept locally to avoid losing unsent work.
Who can access the information
Your learner ID acts like a password. Anyone who has it can resume that learner and access, change or delete its saved record. Keep it private and log out before passing a shared device to someone else. A name is not required, but omitting it does not make the linked learning record anonymous.
A person authenticated with the teacher login for a course can see that course's learner IDs, optional names and progress summaries and can update names. The current roster is course-wide; it does not provide separate private classrooms within a course. The operator and hosting provider process data to run and protect the service.
When you import a JSON file, the app reads the file you select. When you export or share, the file can include learner identifiers, names and learning records. The destination you select receives that file under its own practices. Share only with people or services you trust.
The apps contain no advertisements or in-app purchases and do not integrate an advertising or third-party analytics service. The app code does not use learner records for cross-app advertising tracking. This does not mean no platform services process information: device speech, file and sharing services, connectivity checks and operating-system diagnostics depend on your device, its settings and service providers. Read-aloud uses the device's speech service; the app does not record your voice or request microphone access.
Upfront purchases of the apps through the App Store or Google Play are processed by the respective store under its own payment and privacy practices. The apps do not receive your full payment-card or bank-account details.
How long information remains
The learning service has no automatic inactivity expiry for learner accounts. It keeps the current save and up to ten earlier save revisions for recovery. Deleting a learner removes those account records and revisions from the active learning database. Teacher login tokens expire after eight hours. Rate-limit records expire on short request-limit windows and expired rows are pruned during later rate-limit processing.
App-private learner caches and conflict copies can remain on a device after logout. Logout is not deletion. Temporary export files are scheduled for cleanup after the share sheet closes, with cleanup retried when the app next opens or becomes active. Copies you save elsewhere are not controlled by the app.
Hashed deletion receipts and their dates have no scheduled expiry: they are retained for security so a deleted identifier cannot be reassigned and a repeated deletion request can be confirmed. They contain no learner name, plain learner ID or learning history. Teacher records remain until administrative removal is requested. The service is hosted using DreamHost. Hosting logs and provider or operator backups are separate from the active database and are not erased by the app’s account-deletion action; they may remain for security and recovery under the applicable hosting arrangements. Contact us for help with those records. Device backups depend on your device and backup-provider settings.
Delete an account
In the native app, tap your learner ID, choose Delete my account, retype the displayed ID and choose Permanently delete account. You can also use one of the web pages below without installing the app. The service must be online to complete deletion. A successful request removes that learner's identifiers, name, current progress, roster summary and earlier save revisions from the course's active database. After server confirmation, the requesting native app removes that learner's cached progress, pending saves and conflict-recovery copies. If it cannot complete device cleanup, it reports the problem so you can retry or clear the app's storage before sharing the device.
Security receipts containing hashes, rather than the learner's name, plain ID or work, are retained to handle retry requests and prevent reuse. Their retention period is stated above. Deletion affects only the selected course and learner; it does not delete another learner or the teacher account. Other devices' offline copies and files you previously exported are separate copies. Logging out or uninstalling the app does not delete a server account.
- Delete a Geometry Lab learner account
- Delete an Algebra 1 Lab learner account
- Delete an Algebra 2 Lab learner account
Teacher accounts are privately provisioned by the operator, rather than created in the native app. To request removal of a teacher account, contact info@sivi.com from the school or administrator who manages it. We will verify the request and explain the removal steps. If you have lost a learner ID, contact us for assistance; we may be unable to identify or verify an account without its ID. Do not send a teacher password.
Audience and classroom use
The apps are intended for learners aged 13 and up. They are not intended for children under 13. We do not ask for a birth date or verify age in the app. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information, contact info@sivi.com so we can help identify and remove it. Schools should use the service consistently with their own policies and applicable requirements.
Support and privacy requests
